Cosmopolitan and democratic baroque Hamburg boasted a thriving public concert scene with some of the most resplendent and fashionable music of the time. In this program, replete with horns, timpani, woodwinds and strings, we play orchestral contributions by Telemann, C.P.E. Bach, Keiser, Graupner, and Erlebach.

The Baroque Era ushered in the age of the virtuoso horn, an instrument as famous for its mellow glow as for its raucous athleticism. Todd Williams joins the Tempesta di Mare Chamber Players for heroic and soulful music by Handel, Fasch, and Telemann in rare modern performances.

Throughout her long life, Sara Levy championed the musical tastes of her youth, performing on harpsichord well into the nineteenth century. We plumb her matchless collection of chamber commissions by her friends C.P.E. Bach, W.F. Bach, Janitsch, and Quantz, plus music of J.S. Bach.

tall, dark, one-eyed and handsome


In Handel's two-act Italian drama, a darkly alluring Cyclops makes a nymph think twice about her beau. David Newman stars as Polifemo, the scorned, raging giant in Handel’s youthful take on the famous myth, musically and dramatically distinct from his later English setting of the same tale
. With Laura Heimes as Aci and Lorie Gratis as Galatea.
