In 2015, Tempesta launched the Zimmerman Artistic Opportunity Fund in support of strategically important artistic endeavors, such as our annual CD recordings, the research and discovery of forgotten masterpieces, and exceptional performance opportunities at prestigious festivals or venues. This fund was a long-time aspiration of Robert Zimmerman, a member of Tempesta’s Board of Directors, and his generous bequest provided its seed-money. Incidentally, Bob’s namesake, Gottfried Zimmermann, was also a great music patron who sponsored music gatherings in his garden and coffeehouse in Leipzig, Germany. In 1720 Café Zimmermann began hosting free weekly concerts by the Collegium Musicum, an ensemble of the cities’ most prominent musicians and amateurs founded in 1702 by Georg Philipp Telemann while he was a student of law. The ensemble was later directed by Telemann’s good friend Johann Sebastian Bach.
